Colocasia ‘Illustris’ – Striking Contrast and Bold Garden Texture
Colocasia ‘Illustris’, also known as Imperial Taro, is a classic elephant ear prized for its dramatic contrast and rugged beauty. The large, heart-shaped leaves are deep green to nearly black, boldly overlaid with bright green veins and splotches—creating an eye-catching marbled effect that stands out in both sun and shade.
This variety has a spreading habit and typically reaches 48 to 60 inches tall with a spread of 36 to 48 inches, making it ideal for mass plantings, water features, or containers where bold texture and color are desired.
